K6XX CW Indicator Kit

 

The K6XX CW Indicator Kit utilizes Surface Mount Technology or SMT. It uses subminiature devices on a printed circuit board. The purpose of this circuit is to light a LED in your radio when you tune to within +- 20hz of a cw signal. This makes for easy tuning of a cw signal by eye rather than by ear. The Kit can be installed in all Elecraft radios and others. At this point in time the kits will be for the Elecraft K1, K2 and KX1.

use the assembly documentation for the K1. I can send you the kit but you will need to figure out

what to do on your own for now. Check out the K1 instructions below.

The K6XX CW Indicator Kit utilizes Surface Mount technology or SMT. It uses subminiature devices on a printed circuit board. The purpose of this circuit is to light a LED in your radio when you tune to within +- 20hz of a cw signal. This makes for easy tuning of a cw signal by eye rather than by ear. The Button Kit is for the K2 and K1 radios only. It can be used on the Mode button on the K2 and the WPM button on the K1. Instead of lighting the RIT LED on the rig, it will use the SMD LED mounted inside the button.

When using a 14V supply the output may be as low as 2.5 to 3 watts instead of the expected 3 to 4 watts. When using the internal battery the output may be as low as 0.75 to 1 watt instead of he expected 1 to 1.5 watts. The difference between these output levels is rarely a factor in communication, but some operators prefer a higher output level. The modification described here will increase the output power.

WB3AAL used the traditional mounting method for the LED on the K1. He wrap the LED with black electrical tape and then mounted on double sided tape. Watch the WB3AAL's K1 movie.
